Canberra is cold!!! And I hear it gets worse? What???

At least we’ve felt warm hearts of late, with the Gorman House workshop program’s end of semester performances last week. It was exciting to see such a range of performance styles and content, from Butoh inspired work, to Shakespeare, to horror, to an Actors Anonymous meeting! It was wonderful to see so many parents at these performances and to hear such thoughtful comments made by our audience about the pieces they’d watched. A big thank you to all the work our tutors put in throughout the semester and to parents and friends for supporting our artists in their endeavors at CYT.

Our two 13 – 17 years ensembles performed in Fast and Fresh last week at the Canberra Theatre Centre, experiencing the heightened excitement and nerves that come with performing in a professional environment. Congratulations to the second group, who have gone through to the finals and perform for two more nights this week!

Preparations have begun for our August production, SKIN, devised by Alison Plevey, myself and the CYT Actors Ensemble and performed at the National Portrait Gallery. SKIN will be a performance art piece, running for four days, alongside the exhibition Bare: Degrees of Undress. As part of our preparations we’re all heading off to Sydney at the end of June to experience renowned performance artist Marina Abramović’s way of working. We know this will stimulate ideas further for our development of SKIN and will certainly push us to take greater risks within the work.

Thank you to everyone for dealing so well with the Capital Works we’re in the thick of at Gorman House. These are scheduled to be complete by August and will leave us with beautiful new facilities. The CYT office is finally getting a makeover too, with painting to take place at the end of June, so pop in, in July and see how fabulous we look!

Chookers to all the Primary Schools workshops for their end of semester performances coming up at the end of this month, I can’t wait to see what you’ve created.

See you in July!
